God created man in His image. Just as God manifests Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we are made up of a soul, body, and spirit. Our physical body—our flesh—is the part of us that is temporary. Biblically, the term “flesh” is another term for our physical body but is also often associated with physical temptation. The enemy attacks our flesh because it is the part of us that is the most easily corrupted. The interesting thing is that when our flesh dies, or is afflicted, our soul and spirit draw closer to God. This is what it means when the Scripture speaks of dying to our flesh so that we may live in Messiah Yeshua. When a loved one passes away, only one third of their being has died. We can have hope that what’s left of them has gone on to be with the LORD and that we will see them again with a new body in the Kingdom to come.
